Shellhut, Tiny Island, Wings Media sign MoU for 10 co-productions

Thailand’s Shellhut Entertainment and Singapore’s Tiny Island Productions opened MIPCOM in Cannes on Monday with a MoU for 10 feature-film co-productions with the Shanghai Media Group’s Wings Media.

The venture kicks off with a sci-fi reality animated series based on Wings Media’s “Starship MZ: 2049” and Tiny Island Productions' animated series “Dream Defenders” under the leadership of veteran animation director Paul Chung. The production is expected to be released in 2020.

“The long term goal will be to build China's own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will entertain audiences worldwide,” the companies said.

IP from the co-operation will be used to build theme parks in Thailand, Shellhut’s chief executive, Jwanwat (Tan) Ahriyavraromp, said in a statement.

The companies estimated the MoU’s value at US$250 million and claimed that the deal, which they called the biggest animation film cooperation in Asia – is the first China-Singapore-Thailand animation co-production.

Shellhut Entertainment and Tiny Island Productions previously partnered to produce animated TV series “Shelldon”.
