Alibaba Pictures has set up a new film label, Surprise Works, to focus on young filmmakers and contemporary stories from a new generation. The new subsidiary will include a focus on near-future sci-fi and modern youth. Three features are already under way –  "Striding into the Wind", the story of a university graduate; "Girl with Nine Wigs", about one woman’s battle with cancer; and "Jasmine", about a girl’s adventure with a robot after losing her father.
