“Tanaav 2” Vol 2 drops today, Applause Entertainment adaptation of “Fauda” for Sony LIV; “a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for the greater good,” director Sudhir Mishra says

Applause Entertainment’s “Tanaav 2” Volume 2 – the final volume of the Indian adaptation of Yes Studios’ Israeli thriller, “Fauda Season 2” – premiered on streaming platform Sony LIV today, returning Manav Vij as task force head Kabir with Gaurav Arora as a terrifying new ISIS-trained adversary bent on wreaking havoc in Kashmir.
In the run up to the premiere, director Sudhir Mishra said the new season focused on the theme of the nation coming first and explored “the complexities of the human condition, the blurred lines between good and evil, and the resilience of the human spirit”.
“Tanaav 2 Vol 2 is not just a continuation of the story – it’s a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for the greater good,” Mishra said.
“Tanaav”, greenlit by Applause Entertainment, debuted on Sony LIV in November 2022. The first six episodes of the second season streamed in September 2024.
The series is part of the seven-year-old Applause Entertainment’s founding strategy to split story sources into three: international adaptations, book-based series and original writing, says managing director, Sameer Nair.
Applause’s multi-title relationship with “Fauda” producer, Yes Studios, also includes the Indian adaptation of thriller, “Kvodo”, which was made in India in 2020 as “Your Honour”. The series is about a judge who crosses moral and ethical lines in order to save his son.
Nair says he had his eye on “Fauda”, which premiered on Netflix in 2016, from the start.
“This is a story about land and ownership of land, and who has a claim on the land… We don’t have the same cross border issue, but for us Kashmir is still disputed territory,” he says
Talking about the current industry landscape, Nair says “one challenge that has come up in recent times, and which is a good challenge, I think, is that there has been a downward pressure on cost”.
“I don't think anyone is compromising on quality. They just want more bang for their buck. And in many ways, that works out quite well for us”.

CNA to air first docu-drama; trilogy highlights little-known but significant events in Singapore’s history

Singapore’s CNA news network premieres its first-ever docu-drama series, “History Unveiled”, this weekend, drawing attention to three three significant moments from the country’s past via a TV series and a micro-site for exclusive interactive content.
The trilogy looks at the cause of the unprecedented three-day shutdown of the Singapore Exchange in 1985 (“Black Thursday”); the impact of the Causeway between Singapore and Malaysia on people’s lives (“The Causeway”) since it was opened 100 years ago; and the mysterious century-old mansion, Karikal Mahal, and the role it played in World War II (“Karikal Mahal: A Silent Witness“).
“History Unveiled” kicks off tomorrow (7 Dec) with the premiere of the two-part “Black Thursday”, filmed by Protagonist by M. The second episode will air on Sunday (8 Dec).
“The Causeway”, commissioned from Third Floor Pictures, debuts on 21 December and the three-part “Karikal Mahal: A Silent Witness”, commissioned from Ochre Pictures, will air from 4 to 6 January 2025. The episodes will also be available on the “History Unveiled” microsite, CNA Video-on-Demand and CNA Insider YouTube a day after each episode’s premiere.

Netflix adds “I am Married…But!” to Valentine’s Day 2025 line-up

Netflix is adding Li Nien-hsiu’s romcom, “I am Married…But!”, to its 2025 Valentine’s Day global line up.
The 12-episode series from Deal Entertainment is written, directed and edited by Li and produced by Iza Sun and Vita Huang.
The show stars Alice Ko as a fiery and disillusioned wife who has lived with her in-laws for three years opposite Jasper Liu in his first Taiwanese drama after a five-year break. Liu plays a lazy, annoying and helpless mummy’s boy whom Ko thinks about divorcing every seven days.
When Ko’s character meets her soulmate on a dating app and suddenly decides she wants a baby, the tug of war between emotional infidelity and family life begins.
Li said in this week’s publicity material that the inspiration for the series came from dating apps.
“I noticed that many married people are on dating apps, and I couldn’t help but wonder what they’re searching for,” she said.
The series also stars Samantha Ko and Tseng Jing-hua.
