Cambodia's 11-year-old horror film specialist, Sastra Film, launches its first dedicated international sales push this week, taking a 26-title theatrical catalogue to Cannes’ film market via Singapore-based distributor Wave Films.
The move signals Cambodia’s ambitions to join its regional neighbours’ strong and growing horror pipelines.
Two English-language titles anchor the studio’s international campaign – supernatural feature “Faceless”, directed by Jeremiah Kipp ("The Mortuary Assistant”), and “Mama’s Here”, directed by Bun Chanpick and starring Samantha Drews and John Sak.
"Faceless" marks Sastra's debut collaboration with an established Western horror director.
"Mama's Here" explores material attachment through a darker lens.
The third highlight for Sastra in Cannes is “Death Marriage”, a Khmer-language horror film based on true events. As of 8 May, the film had grossed US$600,000 at the domestic box office.
