Monday, 23 June 2025 Media Partners Asia’s (MPA) annual APOS event opens in Bali tomorrow with a closed-door CEO conclave kicking off a two-day conference agenda on Wednesday and Thursday that digs into everything from transforming the entertainment experience, the power of sports, and developing new monetisation models to the next wave of storytelling in India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. All against a volatile macro landscape that demands new models and scale, says MPA executive director, Vivek Couto, who will open the show with his trademark state of the industry presentation. Meanwhile… Hong Kong adaptation of Israeli format “Your Honor” heads to Youku, domestic release tipped on HK free TV; Nick Cheung and Myolie Wu star Streaming platform Youku has started promoting the Hong Kong/Cantonese version of the Israeli scripted format, “Your Honor” (刍狗之血). Release dates have yet to be confirmed for the premium series, which stars Nick Cheung Ka Fai as Judge Qin Yu and Myolie Wu as policewoman Tang Xuan. A Hong Kong release is on the cards; no confirmation from free-TV channels Viu TV or TVB Jade. Mainland China distribution is likely to be as a finished-tape import, and best bets at the moment are that the series will go out in the original Cantonese with simplified Chinese subtitles. The adaptation is by William Lau’s two-year-old Hong Kong-based indie Ladder Ideas, and the scripted format deal was brokered by Boat Rocker’s SVP, Strategic Partnerships, Asia, Henry Or, according to the Feb 2025 announcement. TechStorm employees go public with wage claims; gov’t agencies approached to support back pay action Disaffected employees of Singapore-based regional programmer, TechTV/TechStorm, have taken their case public, telling local citizen journalism platform Stomp.sg that they haven’t been paid for months and, with debts mounting, they’ve approached government agencies for help. TechTV boss Debbie Lee said today that the company was in advanced and active discussions for further funding, but that the process required more time to mature. Coupang Play returns “Boyhood”; director Lee Myungwoo back for season two of blockbuster youth action drama Korean streamer Coupang is returning 2023 blockbuster youth action series “Boyhood” for a second season, set to begin filming in 2026. A release date has not been confirmed. Season one director Lee Myungwoo is attached to the renewal, which will be produced by The Studio M.
mm2 Entertainment, “Dinosaur Train” creator Sparky Animation and DSTAR Moving Pictures are developing a new 3D-animated series inspired by the legendary voyages of the 15th-century Chinese explorer Zheng He. The 8x11-minute “Zheng He Fantasy Adventures” is scheduled for a 2026 release. The new project, designed to resonate with global audiences, emerges in a grim domestic animation production environment, with local creators glum about prospects and concerned about the impact of AI on animators.
