Korean streamer Coupang is returning 2023 blockbuster youth action series “Boyhood” for a second season, set to begin filming in 2026. A release date has not been confirmed.
Season one director Lee Myungwoo is attached to the renewal, which will be produced by The Studio M.
Coupang Play said a week after the season one release in December 2023 that viewership had soared 420% compared to the prior week.
Set in 1989 in Chungcheongnam-do, season one is about a high school wimp Byung-tae (Yim), who unexpectedly becomes a top dog after a series of trivial misunderstandings. Season two shifts the action from a provincial agricultural high school to a seaside fisheries high school.
Coupang Play has promised an “upgraded story and characters”. "This season will feature a story with more colourful and three-dimensional characters… We plan to capture moments of youth that are familiar yet new, cheerful yet heartfelt,” Lee said during the announcement.
