Hikaru Utada songs head for Netflix in new Japanese scripted series
03 December 2020

Netflix brings the songs of Japanese singer Hikaru Utada to scripted drama for the first time in new original series, “First Love”, set for a worldwide release in 2022.

The drama, starring Hikari Mitsushima (“Kangoku no Ohimesama”) and Takeru Satoh (“An Incurable Case of Love”), is inspired by two of Utada’s chart toppers – “First Love” (1999) and “Hatsukoi” (2018).

The series follows two young people from their meeting in the late 1990s to the present. Mitsushima plays an aspiring flight attendant struck by a tragic accident. Satoh plays a former pilot.

The series is written and directed by Yuri Kanchiku ("Let M The Reason I Love You, Other Stories", "Documentary of AKB48: To Be Continued").
