Hong Kong Filmart: China’s Linmon Pivots Microdrama Focus from U.S. to Asia, Prioritises Southeast Asia for Growth
17 March 2026

Microdramas and series made for export markets are the refreshed current year focus for Chinese film and TV studio Linmon International.

The firm has previously focused its microdrama efforts on English-language series for the busy U.S. market, releasing 15 in 2014 and 11 in 2025.

Production is being rebalanced in 2026 towards markets nearer to home and considered to have faster growth prospects.

Top priorities are Thailand and Indonesia, where Chinese long-form series have been successful. Vietnamese, Korean and Philippines shows are also expected to launch in 2026.

The company tells ContentAsia that scripts are developed in China, localised with writers from each country and shot in China.

In some cases, scripts are adapted to produce different language versions, such as “Dendram Istri XXL”, made in English and Indonesian versions with the alternative title, “Revenge of XXL Wife”.

Linmon highlights five core strengths: screenwriting capacity, IP ownership and control, casting capabilities, speed and efficiency of production and guaranteed on-screen performance.

In the long-form segment, Linmon releases costume drama romance “In the Moonlight” in Q2 2026, with Tencent Video its anchor client in mainland China. The show was previously announced for Q1.

Other previously announced shows that will be completed and air in 2026 include “Sunshine Through the Rain”, a romantic drama about overseas students now shooting in Germany; S2 of medical drama “The Heart”; “Xiao Chen Liang Feng”, another medical-set comedy-drama currently in post-production and will air on iQiyi.

New on the slate are: “The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng”, a glossy costume drama now shooting; web-novel-to-screen adaptation “The Infinite 10 Days”, directed by Derek Hui ("I Am Nobody") ; an untitled web novel fantasy adaptation; and “Only Thirty Five”, a sequel to “Nothing But Thirty”, a contemporary drama abou...
