Pakistan journalists allege censorship crackdown ahead of Feb elections
29 January 2024

Journalists in Pakistan have started sharing experiences of what they claim is a renewed government censorship campaign ahead of Pakistan’s election in early February.

New allegations include efforts to limit coverage of former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Khan has been in prison since August 2023 on charges he says are politically motivated.

PTI candidates are being forced to stand as independents in the 8 Feb elections.

Pakistan has denied efforts to control media coverage of the elections.
