SCM holds onto Indonesia free-TV lead; Vidio revenues up 31%
09 May 2025

Indonesian streaming platform, Vidio, has reported a 30.6% revenue increase in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, with stable subscription growth, healthier average revenue per user, and popular titles such as “Zona Merah”, PT Surya Citra Media (SCM) says.

Digital media – including Vidio – generated combined revenues of Rp 429.2 billion, an increase of 15.8% year-on-year.

SCM’s sister services – free-TV stations SCTV and IVM – held onto their viewership lead for the first three months of this year, with related channels Mentari TV (kids and mums) and Moji (youth and sports) in 9th and 10th spots for the quarter. The mixed-fortune results nevertheless put all channels operated by media conglomerate Emtek in the country’s top 10.

SCTV’s lead for the quarter was driven by sinetrons  “Luka Cinta” (17.6% audience share), “Asmara Gen Z” (17.3%) and “Ketika Cinta Memanggilmu” (16.5%), along with Ramadhan programmes including “Para Pencari Tuhan Jilid 18” and  “Lorong Waktu”.

IVM maintained its second place with PSSI National Team Matches achieving 21.6% overall, The Indosiar Anniversary Concert which was held over three consecutive days achieving 14.9% share, Mega Film Asia achieving 13.2% and Magic 5 achieving 10.6% share.

SCM’s consolidated net revenue for the quarter decreased 1.1% to Rp 1,737.9 billion. Gross profit decreased to Rp 603.6 billion, declining 3.6% from 1Q 2024. The gross profit margin also declined from 35.6% to 34.7%.

The company blamed the decline in its free-to-air business in the first three months of this year to last year’s Q1 Presidential Election, which drove up adspend, and unfavourable macroeconomic conditions in 1Q 2025.

SCTV revenue for the quarter was down 14%. IVM revenue was down 5%.
