The Singapore Government is making an additional investment of over S$1 billion/US$780 million over five years, from 2025 to 2030, under the National AI Research and Development (NAIRD) Plan, authorities said. This is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthen Singapore’s public AI research capabilities and elevate global research competitiveness.
The announcement was made by Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, on Saturday (24 January 2026).
The plan focuses on three areas: fundamental and applied AI research, which includes building capabilities to support the adoption and application of AI, and developing Singapore's talent pipeline.
Singapore has positioned itself at the forefront of developing and deploying AI solutions that deliver "meaningful benefits to both businesses and citizens" since 2019, when the National AI Strategy (NAIS) was launched. The strategy was refreshed in 2023, adding the concept of AI for the public good.
