“Tee Yod” horror raises hopes for BEC World’s Thai film ambitions; theatrical release on track for THB200m after record-breaking opening
30 October 2023

Thai broadcaster BEC World’s second film, Thai horror film "Tee Yod", has raised hopes for the company’s fledgling theatrical strategy following its record opening across theatres in Thailand.

The film, which released in theatres across the country on 26 October, grossed THB100 million/US$2.8 million in its first three days and is on track for THB200 million/US$5.6 million, according to domestic data.

Produced by Minds@work/Narit “Pap” Yuvaboon ("Long Weekend"), "Tee Yod" topped 2023 opening day records for a domestic film with box office of THB39 million/US$1.1 million.

BEC World is the home of blockbuster TV series such as "Royal Doctor", "The Betrayal" and "Love Destiny 2", which premiered on 18 Oct and is breaking ratings records for domestic free-TV broadcaster Channel 3 as well as streaming records for BEC World’s 3 Plus platform.

"Tee Yod" was released a week after BEC World announced a new 50-50 THB 82.92 million/US$2.27 million joint venture with Major Join Film to produce additional feature films.

BEC World said in its announcement on 19 Oct that the joint venture aligned with its strategic plan and would increase business growth opportunities.

Directed by Taweewat “Kui” Wantha ("Khru Phensri" and "Ghoul Lady"), "Tee Yod" is the story of a brother who, returning to his hometown, has to find a way to save his younger sister from a bizarre illness.

Tee Yod stars Nadech Kugimiya as Yuck, along with Peerakrit “Friend” Phacharaboonyakiat, Jelilcha Kapaun, Rattawadee Wongthong and Kajbhunditt Jaidee.

BEC World kicked off its theatrical film strategy less than two years ago, in February 2022, in a collaboration with M Pictures Entertainment.

The first film was action comedy, "Bua Pan Fun Yap", about a skilled swordsman, played by Anne Thongprasom ("The Betrayal"), who steps up to protect her village from a violent gang. "Bua Pan Fun Yap" was released in November 2022.

BEC World reported an investment of THB2.7 million/US$75,000 in "Bua Pan ...
