A little less than a month before its opening on 29 November, this year’s TIFFCOM market in Tokyo is tracking ahead of last year, with industry registrations already up on 2024, market organisers said at a briefing in Tokyo today.
TIFFCOM runs from 29-31 October. The film festival runs from 27 October to 5 November
A keynote session unveiled today involves “Morte Cucina” director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, who joins “Ejen Ali the Movie 2” executive producer Nini Yusof and "Gaduda; Dare to Dream” producer Shanty Harmayn for a special session on international co-production.
The session, organised by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan (UNIJAPAN), includes a “Morte Cucina” case study, with Ratanaruang, producer Soros Sukhum and co-producer Stefano Centini. “Morte Cucina”, a production with Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Luxembourg and the U.S., has been selected for the 2025 TIFF Competition.
This year’s special sessions also include a focus on Japanese content’s global strategies and trends organised by the Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (BEAJ).
This year’s event includes the 6th Tokyo Gap Financing Market, the Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake (focusing on Japanese book adaptation and remake rights); and an expanded lineup of industry seminars.
The 23 projects chosen for the gap financing market were announced in September, and include for the first time a Japanese feature-length animation project.
