ABS-CBN lays off 3% of staffers; Philippines’ programmer blames wider TV industry woes
21 October 2024

Philippines’ programmer ABS-CBN is retrenching 3% of its workforce. The decision impacts about 100 people.

Announcing its decision, ABS-CBN said that it had made significant progress in many of its businesses this year, including two hits from Star Cinema, improved TV ratings, and a boost to the music business from the popularity of girl band BINI.

“However, the TV industry as a whole has been hurt by lower consumer spending which translated into lower advertising spends. The company is also being affected by the global decline in the pay TV business,” the company said.
