CJ ENM’s “Queen of Tears” heads for Turkey; 1st international adaptation for 2024 blockbuster
21 October 2024

A Turkish version of CJ ENM’s “Queen of Tears” is on the way in a deal with O3 Medya, Dass Yapim and Eccho Rights.

This is the first international version of the blockbuster 2024 series, which was Netflix’s most-watched Asian title in the first half of this year with 682.6 million hours viewed/29.2 million views.

Başak Soysal will direct the Turkish adaptation, which will air on an as-yet-undisclosed free-TV platform in Turkey.

Casting for the role of Baek Hyun Woo, originally played by Kim Soo Hyun, and Hong Hae-in, played by Kim Ji-won, is currently underway.

Originally produced by Studio Dragon and airing on CJ ENM’s tvN channel in Korea and on Netflix worldwide, "Queen of Tears" is about a married couple in crisis.

O3 Medya chief executive, Saner Ayar, described the agreement as a “significant milestone in the collaboration between Turkish and Korean television industries”.

The series will be co-produced by O3 Medya and DASS Yapım, with Saner Ayar and Selen Sevigen serving as producers.

The Turkish adaptation is set to premiere on a free-to-air channel in the coming months.

Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights added “O3 and Dass Yapım’s ambitious plans for a Turkish re-telling of this beautiful story will have a huge impact on the international market. We can’t wait to share this incredible new project with the world.”

The Turkish deal was brokered by HECE Medya.
