Broadcasters across the Asia Pacific – including mainland China's CCTV-9 as well as the top Chinese streaming platforms iQIYI, Youku, bilibili and Tencent Video – have picked up rights to Silverback Films’ five-part one-hour wildlife series, "Parenthood", in early deals sealed by indie distributor All3Media International.
CCTV-9, the China Media Group’s documentary channel, acquired China's first linear window, while the four streamers are sharing non-exclusive rights to the series, which was filmed over three years across six continents.
"Parenthood" has also been acquired by Japanese public broadcaster NHK, which is the show’s local co-production partner in Japan and will be launching a special version for local audiences by this summer.
Other deals in APAC include Now TV in Hong Kong, TVNZ in New Zealand and Network Ten in Australia.
The series will also be available on Warner Bros. Discovery platforms in select regions in Asia.
Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the series uses the latest 8K technology to film "the drama, danger and joy of animal parenthood in a rapidly changing world".
Directed by Jeff Wilson, "Parenthood" was commissioned for BBC One and iPlayer, and produced in association with All3Media International.
The new deals for Parenthood coincide with the debut of Silverback Films’ "Ocean" with David Attenborough, also co-funded and distributed by All3Media International.
