Chinese media and IP giant COL launches its global content distribution hub this week, cementing its position as the world’s leading reseller of micro-dramas.
The new international unit – based in Beijing and Singapore – will carry more than 1,000 titles in English and Chinese, tapping into the race for bite-sized serialised content.
Today’s announcement comes about two weeks ahead of the 2025 ContentAsia Summit, which opens in Taipei on 3 September, with a micro-drama focus and screenings on Thursday, 4 September.
The new hub, which builds on a vertical viewing trend that is seen to be redefining global viewing habits, unites COL’s distribution initiatives for global markets under one roof and builds on the company’s extensive IP ownership, creative development and platform operations.
The home of blockbuster microdramas such as the 105-episode historical epic “Rags to Rank One", “Say You Remember, Say You Love” and “Billionaire Playboy’s Replacement Bride”, COL also operates micro-drama platforms FlareFlow, Sereal+ and Unireel (Japan).
“Rags to Rank One” garnered over 238 million views in a single day and averaged 77 minutes of watch time per user, ultimately surpassing 1 billion cumulative views in China alone.
On Sereal+, “Say You Remember, Say You Love” has 323.2 million views and “Billionaire Playboy’s Replacement Bride” has 630.4 million views.
With the formalisation of its global distribution division, COL has outlined plans to scale further into emerging digital-first markets.
COL’s Southeast Asia operations GM, Timothy Oh, described micro-dramas as “the storytelling language of a mobile generation: fast, emotional, and deeply immersive”.
Announcing the new unit today, Oh highlighted the advantage of “insight and agility” in a space where “audience attention is won or lost in seconds”.
COL is also exploring the future of content creation through AI-powered production pipelines, the company said today.
Several AI-generated anime series have already been developed and COL “is actively integrating artificial intelligence into production workflows – reducing time-to-market and opening up new creative possibilities for serialised storytelling”.
Speakers at ContentAsia Summit’s microdrama focus include COL International CTO Enoch Chen; Bamboo Network’s CEO/Creative Director, Dabin Chung; COL Group Southeast Asia GM SEA Timothy Oh; and Mediacorp’s Chinese Drama Productions VP, Loh Woon Woon.
ContentAsia’s Microdrama Showcase titles include:
