First Korean co-production for Singapore’s Mediacorp; “Absolute Value of Romance” on the way in debut Coupang Play deal
03 December 2025

Singapore’s Mediacorp and Korean streaming service Coupang Play are collaborating on premium Korean drama “Absolute Value of Romance”. The series is Mediacorp’s first Korean co-production, and marks a major milestone in the national media network’s international expansion ambitions.

Filming is currently underway in Korea. The Korean-language series is set to premiere in 2026 on Coupang Play.

Billed as a “fresh and witty romance set in a high school”, the series follows Yeo Eui-ju, a quiet student with a double life. By day, she’s an unassuming highschooler; by night, she secretly writes web novels and dreams of literary fame. But success feels far away — until inspiration strikes in the forms of four irresistibly charming new teachers, whose arrival sends both her school and her stories into overdrive.

“Absolute Value of Romance” stars Kim Hyang Gi (“Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds”)  alongside Cha Hak-yeon of K-pop boyband VIXX (“Joseon Attorney”), Kim Jae-hyun of rock band N.Flying, Sohn Jeong-hyuck and Kim Dong-gyu with rising Mediacorp star Gladys Bay, in her K-drama debut as Jenny, a spirited Singaporean exchange student who becomes Eui-ju’s closest confidante.

Mediacorp’s chief content officer, Virginia Lim, said today that the co-production “represents a meaningful step in expanding our storytelling reach… and underscores our focus on creating stories that transcend cultures and connect audiences”. She also talked about Korea’s strong storytelling continuing to set industry standards.

The new series, supported by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority, follows Coupang Play’s originals including “Boyhood” and “Family Matters”.

Coupang Play’s head of original production, Christine Ahn, said “Absolute Value of Romance” built on that momentum and that the platform would “continue to expand its global footprint ...
