Mirror Entertainment launched at TCCF a few minutes ago with NT$310 million joint investment from government agency TAICCA and Mirror Fiction with additional support from Ruen Tai Shing and Field Stone Investment Holding. The venture plans to develop 10 TV and film projects over five years.
Details of seven of the 10 projects were showcased this morning.
These included stories inspired by true events and/or global issues, such as "Godless", adapted from a true story about s string of murders in Taiwan perpetrated by a woman; "Until the Next Appointment", a comedy inspired by real-life experience in Switzerland exploring the internet's mental and physical toll on children today and the parenting challenges this raises; and "Diamonds and Bread", a thriller about a diamond theft that uncovers an international conspiracy.
The other four mentioned were "Gangster Priest", a black comedy about a gangster who can't help being pulled into trouble even after leaving behind his life of crime; "Hopscotch", a horror film about how family trauma is replicating through new generations; "Cleaning Guide for Murderers" based on one of Mirror Fiction's online novels; and "Makaketonay to paloma'", about baseball in indigenous communities that chronicles a century-long relationship across Taiwan and Japan.
“We are reinventing ourselves,” said Cheng-Yu Tung, CEO of Mirror Fiction and chairperson of Mirror Entertainment at this morning's announcement on the closing day of this year's TCCF.
Announcing the new initiative, MIrror Fiction said the company would bridge page and screen in its development of One-Source Multi-Use (OSMU) properties. "These properties will be leveraged to create exciting new works bringing Taiwan's local culture to global audiences," the company said.
