
Prime Video has renewed reality series “The Traitors India” for a second season two weeks after the global release of season one. The platform said a few minutes ago that the new season, adapted from IDTV’s BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning global format, is officially in development.
Season one, produced by BBC Studios India Productions, premiered on 12 June, with new episodes dropping on Thursdays at 8pm.The production house for the second season has not been confirmed.
The India production – the first adaptation of the global format in Asia – is a collaboration with indie distributor All3Media International, and was negotiated by Singapore-based Asia Pacific operation headed by Sabrina Duguet, EVP APAC.
All3media and Prime Video said this afternoon that the show has so far been watched by viewers across 88% of India’s pin codes.
Prime Video India director and head of originals, Nikhil Madhok, said this afternoon that the series was “a true breakout” and a “marquee title that pushes the boundaries of the reality genre”. He said season two would “take the experience to the next level.”
Set against the majestic backdrop of a palace in Suryagarh, Rajasthan, and hosted by Karan Johar, “The Traitors – Season One” brings together 20 personalities from across the entertainment spectrum, including Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi and Harsh Gujral.
“The Traitors” is among the fastest-growing reality show formats in the world, with more than 35 local versions across 30+ countries. In Asia, a deal has been signed for a Korean version with Luyworks Media and Something Special.
