Vidio kicks off “More than Entertainment” re/brand; leading Indonesian filmmakers on board to guide short-film competition
14 August 2025

Indonesia’s Vidio has gathered some of the country’s best-known filmmakers behind a grand plan to re/position the streaming platform as “Lebih Dari Hiburan” (More Than Entertainment).

Shanty Harmayn (“Gadis Kretek”), Joko Anwar (“Satan’s Slaves”), Mira Lesmana (“Rangga & Cinta”) and Wicky Olindo (“The Big 4”) are among the nine filmmakers involved in the Vidio Film Competition. The group of judges and mentors also includes Yosep Anggi Noen, Yandy Laurens, Indra Yudhistira and Khozy Rizal.

Vidio today described the competition as both a talent hunt for young creators and their short film ideas, and part of a bigger quest to position the platform as “more than just streaming”.

The contest involves production funding of up to IDR 150 million/US$9,237 for each of the three top ideas along with direct mentorship.

Winning films of between 10-15 minutes have the opportunity to be screened at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF).

“This is a call for emerging filmmakers to take part in shaping the future of Indonesian cinema, guiding stories from concept to screen, and from local communities to nationwide audiences,” Vidio said.

The new tagline is “more than just a visual identity change… this campaign reflects Vidio’s commitment to becoming a space for growth and creative expression, not only for audiences, but also for local creators”, the platform said.

Vidio’s CMO, Teguh Wicaksono, says the tagline “signals a new chapter for Vidio” in the level of connection the platform is seeking with Indonesians across the board.

Although Vidio says it has been delivering “more than entertainment” for over a decade, the new tagline draws together the service’s diverse offerings, which range from top sports properties to original premium drama.

By the end of this year, Vidio will have produced more than 100 original series.

Other initiatives rolling out as part of the “More than Entertainment” campaign include a Vidio Sports Festival. Sports is a key pillar of Vidio’s offering.

Short film competition entries close on 30 September. Winners will be announced on 2 December at JAFF, followed by mentoring and production until April 2026.
