JioHotstar looks like it’s changing the India game yet again, saying today that it has signed a landmark partnership with OpenAI and promising to transform content discovery into a “simple, human-language conversation”. If the “multilingual cognitive search” works as planned, the new feature will decimate scroll fatigue and make discovery intuitive. How does it work? ChatGPT says: The feature moves discovery (which remains one of streaming’s biggest friction points) from “Scroll → browse rows → click → back → scroll” to “Ask → refine → receive curated answers”. A hallelujah moment? It’s Jio – the company that dared big and triumphed on broadband access/pricing – so our bet is that this is another game changer from a company whose DNA is changing the game. The quote in the announcement came from JioStar vice chair Uday Shankar, who said the new voice-activated function was a “fundamental reimagining of the entertainment experience”. Could AI hallucinate? Sure. Could the answers be inaccurate? Or slow to load? Maybe. But a function that carries with it the potential to reduce friction, increase session length, boost completion rates, and reduce churn? It’s a case of ask and you shall receive. Hallelujah x 1000.
And with that, welcome to the January 2026 release of ContentAsia’s The Big List directory, which focuses on India.
