We picked the Philippines for May because it’s exactly five years since ABS-CBN’s broadcast franchise was not renewed, signalling the biggest shake up in the domestic media environment since martial law in the early 1970s.

Whatever debt it still carries and however much pressure it remains under five years on, ABS-CBN continues to mount a magnificent defence of its corner of the Philippines video entertainment market.

The effort – including previously unthinkable alliances – has given rise to a slate of killer TV and film titles, including record-breaking movie “Hello, Love, Again”, which, at Ps1.6 billion/US$28.6 million worldwide, is now the country’s highest-grossing movie of all time…. Click here for the full story.
