Malay horror feature “Khadam” has received 12 nominations – including for Best Film and Best Director – for this year’s Festival Filem Malaysia 35. The nominations were announced in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
“Khadam” also received nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Music Score, along with Best Supporting Female Actor, Best Theme Song, Best Child Actor, Best Original Story, Best Sound Design, Best Make-Up and Best Poster.
Set in the 1950s, “Khadam”, starring Indonesia’s Aghniny Haque and Malaysia’s Remy Ishak, is about a mother who, following the death of her mother, is forced to inherit a supernatural entity passed down through generations.
The film has been released in five markets in Asia since 11 June this year and launched on Netflix this past weekend (11 October).
“Khadam” was directed by Shamyl Othman, written by Fariza Azlina Isahak and produced by Red Communications and Komet Productions, with the Sil-Metropole Organisation (Hong Kong), Magma Entertainment (Indonesia), VMS Studios (Indonesia), Applause Entertainment (India), Golden Screen Cinemas (Malaysia) and Primeworks Studios (Malaysia).
